Investing in Water Infrastructure

Our Philosophy

Water is the most basic and necessary commodity; every human being needs it and it cannot be replicated. The global population could potentially outgrow the planets’ ability to provide enough clean drinking water to its inhabitants, while at the same time the existing infrastructure that was built to support the transportation of water is rapidly deteriorating. Emerging market countries and developed nations alike have massive water needs and deficient infrastructure, all of which have created what we believe are significant investment opportunities for water and water infrastructure companies around the world.

The challenge of investing in global water companies is the sheer size and complexity of the companies and the universe (500+ companies, $1.3 trillion market cap). To fully understand and analyze the companies requires deep experience in the water industry and a background in environmental, regulatory, engineering and operational aspects of water companies. The competitive edge at Aqua Terra is derived from the experience of our professionals in the water industry in a variety of capacities and their knowledge of the unique complexities of water companies. Aqua Terra’s professionals have worked as both analysts and portfolio managers in the water sector, managing global portfolios focused on the various sub-sectors that comprise the international water business.

Our comprehensive due-diligence process typically includes company and competitor visits and the development of proprietary analysis and models to value portfolio holdings.  This broad reach enables us to identify numerous outstanding opportunities, many of which we believe are under-researched by Wall Street's large investment firms.
